She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University in 2004 and went on to receive her Master’s degree in Human Development and Family Science, with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy, from Oklahoma State University in 2007. She specializes in trauma, infidelity and problematic sexual behavior. Her niche is working with couples and with men in the medical field and corporate executives struggling with problematic sexual behavior.

Melissa became a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT) in 2013 through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). Before opening her private practice in 2013, she worked in an agency setting and an inpatient treatment center for drug and sex addiction, counseling primarily with the men with sex addiction. Melissa has facilitated groups and workshops, in private practice, for both male and females struggling with problematic sexual behaviors, and for those healing from betrayal trauma. She is trained in EMDR, through both EMDRIA and the Parnell Institute, and trained directly with Pia Mellody in her Post Induction Therapy (PIT) model. She is also certified in the Neuroaffective Relational Model (NARM), a model addressing attachment and relational and developmental trauma.
